UMass Boston

Civil Rights & Title IX

The Office of Civil Rights & Title IX fosters a community committed to dignity and respect for all of our members regardless of race, color, national origin, ancestry, religious creed, sex, sexual orientation, gender expression, gender identity, disability, pregnancy and pregnancy related conditions, criminal record (inquiries only), veteran status, active military personnel, genetics, and/or retaliation.

We strive to:

  • educate our community about how to identify, report, and prevent discrimination, harassment, and sexual misconduct;
  • ensure accessibility to all programs and opportunities for all community members, including those with physical and mental disabilities;
  • listen to concerns, questions, and complaints while working with those persons to stop, remedy, and prevent reoccurrence of these issues;
  • monitor inquiries and investigations to inform prevention education and cultivate a campus community free of discrimination, harassment, and other barriers.
  • facilitate pregnancy and pregnancy related accommodation to ensure equal access to programs and services

If you experience any form of discrimination or harassment, including sexual harassment or sexual misconduct, you can contact our office to:

  • speak about any issue or concern and learn more about the possible procedures you may want to consider
  • discuss whether a general inquiry or a full investigation may be warranted;
  • understand your options and rights if you may only want support and access to resources, supportive measures, and other possible accommodations.
